The nationally recognised Best Bar None initiative, which helps to reduce alcohol related crime, is launching its fourth scheme in Greater Manchester.
Urmston, in Trafford, will be introduced to the initiative this week with businesses and licensees invited to learn more at a launch event at Champs Sports Bar, 17 Flixton Road, Urmston on Tuesday 15 May (7pm).
Speakers will include Greater Manchester Police, local businesses and Best Bar None representatives.
Currently active in Bolton, Westhoughton and Altrincham, the success of Best Bar None is already evident. Since the Bolton launch in January 2017, 17 businesses have gained official accreditation, with their commitment resulting in a 33% reduction in violent crime in licensed premises.
Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts from GMP said: “It’s fantastic to see the introduction of a fourth Best Bar None scheme for Greater Manchester.
“Bolton, Westhoughton and Altrincham all highlight the real difference this initiative is having on the night time economy, helping us enjoy the vibrant night life that our fantastic towns and cities offer in a safe and happy environment.”
The Best Bar None scheme aims to support and encourage reductions in alcohol related crime and disorder and builds on good relationships that already exist between the licensees, Greater Manchester Police and local councils.
Licensed premises that achieve the Best Bar None accreditation must show that they are committed to promoting a responsible attitude to a safe and sensible night out.
Once the criteria is met, owners and staff are invited to an awards evening to recognise the work that they have done to develop their premises into a safer place for people to enjoy a night out.
Mick McDonnell, National Co-ordinator for Best Bar None said: “Seeing a fourth Best Bar None scheme launch in the Greater Manchester is fantastic news. It is a pleasure to welcome Urmston into the Best Bar None family, but more importantly, we, (Best Bar None) look forward to working with and supporting Urmston licensees in their quest to become recognised as responsible retailers of alcohol who operate safe premises to a very high standard.
“Best Bar None is about all interested parties working together in partnership to create a safe and vibrant night-time economy for residents and visitors to enjoy. Urmston now joins with Bolton, Altrincham and Westhoughton as an area committed to achieving this.
“I would like to acknowledge the work of GMP’s licensing team, working with the operators and other partners in these areas and look forward to launching more new schemes in the region in the not too distant future.”
