Four arrested after police pursuit

Four men have been arrested after a police pursuit ended in damage being caused to a house.

Around 9:30am this morning (Friday 5 October) officers GMP’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit spotted a suspected stolen car – a silver Alfa Romeo – on Mottram Road, Hattersley.

The driver failed to stop for officers and a pursuit ensued, which continued along Hattersley Road West.

The pursuit came to a stop on Underwood Road after the 1.6-litre Alfa Romeo collided with a number of parked cars and a semi-detached family house, causing substantial damage.

The responding officers swiftly arrested four men aged 25, 26, 27 and 28 on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. They remain in custody for questioning.

Police Sergeant Danny Kabal, whose officers were involved in the pursuit, said: “I appreciate seeing a pursuit in a residential area can be alarming for people but, despite some minor injuries as a result of the collision, the public and police officers are safe and well.

“I’d like to personally thank the members of the public who were in the area at the time for their patience and cooperation as we closed the road.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 589 of 05/10/18 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
