New recruits attested as police constables

Last week we attested 99 new recruits as police constables following a special ceremony with the Chief Constable.

We have been spending time with some of them and are sharing their stories.

A former GMP apprentice and prison officer is the latest to join the beat as a police officer.

Melissa Higham, 21 said that she has always wanted to be a police officer and is looking forward to the challenges of her new role.

She said: “I had a tough upbringing and I think it hardens but also allows you to afford greater sympathy to others.

“I am hoping to work my way through the different departments and am hoping that one I will become a firearms officer.”
