Armed robbery at Morrisons in Rochdale

A woman was struck with a crow bar during an armed robbery at Morrisons in Rochdale.

Shortly before 9.10pm on Tuesday 15 August 2017, police were called to reports of an armed robbery at the store on Dawson Street, Heywood.

Two men armed with crow bars tried to force open two tills when they were approached by a member of staff.

One man fled as the shop worker challenged them whilst the other man proceeded to hit the woman on the arm with his weapon before fleeing.

The robbers left the store empty handed.

The woman suffered a minor injury to her arm.

Police have released CCTV images in the hope that someone might recognise the men or have information that could assist the investigation.

Constable Diane McInnes, of GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “This was an outrageous attack that could have had terrible consequences.

“Fortunately the brave shop worker wasn’t seriously injured but nobody should have to endure such a distressing ordeal when they are just trying to do their job.

“If you saw the men pictured in the area around the time of the offence, or have any information about them, then please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 2115 of 15 August 2017, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
